Further Information

Side effects: Atovaquone / Proguanil may cause mild side effects such as stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, or difficulty sleeping. Most side effects are usually mild and temporary.

Additional precautions: Atovaquone / Proguanil helps prevent malaria but does not replace mosquito bite protection. It is still important to use insect repellent, wear long sleeves, and sleep under mosquito nets where needed. It is usually started 1 to 2 days before entering a malaria risk area, taken daily during travel, and continued for 7 days after leaving. It should be taken with food or a milky drink to improve absorption.

Risks caused by malaria: Malaria is a serious infection spread by mosquito bites and can cause fever, chills, headache, sickness, and muscle aches. In severe cases, it can lead to serious complications and can be life-threatening if not treated quickly.
